Simply add the following to your ~/.bashrc: Luckily, enabling the Git completion for both Bash and Zsh is quite easy if you used Homebrew to install Git. I use Git primarily from the command line. The Git Homepage lists quite a few introductions, tutorials, guides as well as online books that can help you out. On the web, there are a few more options. They are more thorough, but aren’t for the faint of heart either. The fastest way to get to them is by typing git help, and git will open them for you. The second one is having a look at the manpages themselves. The first one is typing git -h (replacing with the command in question of course), and Git will print a short overview of the call syntax as well as the most important options for you. There are basically two ways on the command line. No matter what you’re doing with Git, there’s always some kind of documentation that can help you out. I also assume you have basic knowledge of the command line. You can find most of these things in my dotfiles repo, as well with a lot of other stuff, like parts of my Zsh config. Tapping on book one then opens another very familiar view: chapters on the left, text on the right. I use color-coding as progress indicators, so this is a slightly customized view I’ll discuss shortly. I’m working on a series of SF novellas, with a short story to kick things off, so the top level view of the manuscript is the first three books. Swiping left on an individual document pulls up a sub-menu, which includes delete – or the Scrivener equivalent which, as on the Mac, is simply ‘Move to Trash’ so that the document can be retrieved if required.Īlthough I work on the Mac with my various nested folders all expanded, on the smaller screen of my 9.7-inch iPad Pro I found it was better to open only the book on which I was working. Here I tap on Manuscript to see my actual book – or books, in this case. The indents are quite subtle, to make best use of the limited space on an iPad. Here I’ve expanded both the Manuscript folder and Book 1. You can do this with sub-folders too, revealing as much or as little as you like in the binder. Swipe left on any section (a somewhat scary thing to do when most apps use that for ‘delete’) and an ‘Expand’ option appears. I didn’t initially think that was possible with the iOS version – it very much looked like it was one view at a time – but I was wrong. With the Mac app, we can expand the contents of as many of these folder as we wish to see everything at once. The top-level project view will be very familiar to anyone who uses the Mac version: the binder on the left with a folder for the manuscript itself, together with others for the character notes, research and so on. ![]() In this particular case, I only have my current project loaded, an SF series known as ‘Steel City’. When you first open the app, you see the main screen, showing your projects. My review is based on beta versions, so there may be small differences between the screengrabs below from the beta and the final version, but any such difference should be very minor. The release version will be available on 20th July. I’ve been beta-testing it for a few weeks now, and found it rock-solid. The story behind that is apparently long and painful, but the end result was that the man behind Scrivener, Keith Blount, decided to write the iOS app personally. There was, though, one major problem with Scrivener: the lack of an iOS app … Almost everyone I know who has tried it has said that there’s no going back. I wouldn’t dream of writing a novel in anything else, and many other writers say the same. Outlines, pen-portraits of characters, offline copies of web pages, photos, notes, PDFs … absolutely anything and everything that might help you create your opus magnum is right there all within a single app … What Scrivener does is bring together in one place all the resources you are likely to need to plan, research, write and either submit or self-publish a novel. You can read my review of the Mac app here, but I’ll save time by including my summary here. As a writing tool, Scrivener may be a niche app, but it has a fan-base almost unlike any other app I know. For those unfamiliar with it, it’s an app written by a writer for writers. The simplest is to write off the edits as lost and replace the directory tree under the. Sugar maple-yellow birch forest, Jacques-Cartier National Park, Quebec, Canada Īlthough many people think a red sugar maple leaf is featured on the flag of Canada, the official maple leaf does not belong to any particular maple species although it perhaps most closely resembles a sugar maple leaf of all the maple species in Canada, the leaf on the flag was specially designed to be as identifiable as possible on a flag waving in the wind without regard to whether it resembled a particular species' foliage. Also, the leaf lobes of the sugar maple have a more triangular shape, in contrast to the squarish lobes of the Norway maple. The sugar maple is most easily identified by clear sap in the leaf petiole (the Norway maple has white sap), brown, sharp-tipped buds (the Norway maple has blunt, green or reddish-purple buds), and shaggy bark on older trees (the Norway maple bark has small grooves). The sugar maple can be confused with the Norway maple, which is not native to America but is commonly planted in cities and suburbs, and they are not closely related within the genus. The western American bigtooth maple ( Acer grandidentatum) is also treated as a variety or subspecies of sugar maple by some botanists. It is closely related to the black maple, which is sometimes included in this species, but sometimes separated as Acer nigrum. saccharum is slow, not taking place until the following spring when the soil has warmed and all frost danger is past. The seeds fall from the tree in autumn, where they must be exposed to 45 days of temperatures below 4 ☌ (39 ☏) to break their coating down. The fruit is a pair of samaras (winged seeds). The sugar maple will generally begin flowering when it is between 10 and 200 years old. The flowers are in panicles of five to ten together, yellow-green and without petals flowering occurs in early spring after 30–55 growing degree days. The recent year's growth twigs are green, and turn dark brown. The leaf buds are pointy and brown-colored. They also share a tendency with red maples for certain parts of a mature tree to change color weeks ahead of or behind the remainder of the tree. In some trees, all colors above can be seen at the same time. Sugar maples also have a tendency to color unevenly in fall. The fall color is often spectacular, ranging from bright yellow on some trees through orange to fluorescent red-orange on others. In contrast with the angular notching of the silver maple, however, the notches tend to be rounded at their interior. The basal lobes are relatively small, while the upper lobes are larger and deeply notched. The leaves are deciduous, up to 20 cm (7.9 in) long and wide, palmate, with five lobes and borne in opposite pairs. As with most trees, forest-grown sugar maples form a much taller trunk and narrower canopy than open-growth ones. A 10-year-old tree is typically about 5 m (20 ft) tall. Īcer saccharum is a deciduous tree normally reaching heights of 25–35 m (80–115 ft), and exceptionally up to 45 m (150 ft). It may also be known as "rock maple", "sugar tree", "birds-eye maple", "sweet maple", "curly maple", or "hard maple", particularly when referring to the wood. Sugar maple is best known for being the primary source of maple syrup and for its brightly colored fall foliage. It is native to the hardwood forests of eastern Canada and eastern United States.
